Our mission
White Elephant Gift Ideas is a single-subject site about one December ritual: the white elephant gift exchange. It exists because "just bring something funny" is how a party ends up with fifteen novelty items nobody wants to carry home, and because the rules of the game are argued about every year by people who have never seen them written down.
Every guide here is a buying guide. We explain the game, the price caps, and how to judge whether a gift will read across a crowded room and still get used in February. We do not test products, we do not run a party-data programme, and you will never find an invented price, rating or steal count on this site.
The site is funded by Amazon affiliate links. They never decide what gets recommended, and they never change what you pay.
How we choose
- Two-second legibility. Can the room understand the gift while it is held up across a table? Big, obvious objects beat clever subtle ones at a party.
- Second-act value. Would anybody still use it after New Year's? A joke that ends at the unwrapping is a joke the winner has to carry home.
- The cap is the brief. A $20 office limit and a $50 friend-group limit are different assignments, and we write them as different lists.
- Room risk. Some gags land in one office and get a manager involved in another. Where that is a real risk, the guide says so.
What we do not do
We do not test products, run a party-research programme, or publish steal counts, prices or star ratings as if they were measured. Where a price or rating appears it comes from live retailer data; otherwise we send you to check it yourself. Guides are re-read before the December season and updated where they have gone stale.
